Lisa Whitman Caddy exemplifies the values of service, leadership, stewardship, and commitment to Utah’s western heritage. A lifelong horsewoman and advocate for public lands, Lisa has dedicated countless hours to preserving trails, promoting equestrian access, and strengthening the connection between Utah communities and the western way of life.
As Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Utah Back Country Horsemen, Lisa leads eleven chapters across the state and works closely with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, State Parks, and local municipalities on trail maintenance and improvement projects. Her efforts have helped preserve and expand access to Utah’s backcountry while ensuring that equestrian voices are represented alongside other outdoor recreation groups.
A founding member of the Dimple Dell Preservation Committee, Lisa has been a driving force in protecting open space and maintaining trails throughout the Wasatch Front. Whether clearing trails, hauling equipment into remote areas, building footbridges, restoring corrals, or organizing volunteer projects, she consistently leads by example. Her passion for horses and the outdoors has also inspired countless individuals to explore Utah’s public lands through pack trips and trail riding adventures.
In her professional career as a Salt Lake County Sheriff Corrections Officer, Lisa has continued her commitment to service. She helped restore the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Posse, preserving a treasured western tradition, and has volunteered extensively with Camp Hope, providing equine experiences for children who have experienced trauma. Through horses, she has helped create opportunities for healing, confidence, and connection.
Her contributions have earned numerous honors, including the Sandy City Mayor’s Trailblazer Award and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Chief Award. Respected as a community organizer, advocate, and horsewoman, Lisa Whitman Caddy continues to demonstrate how western heritage can thrive in both rural and urban communities, ensuring its values and traditions are passed to future generations.
