Marvin was born May 27, 1920 in Logan, Utah and his Cowboy Name was The Atlas Kid. He was a charter member of the Cowboy Turtle Association that evolved into the P.R.C.A. He was an all- around champion Cowboy of Utah for 7 years and he rode in the 1934 Boston Garden Rodeo and at Madison Square Garden. He also helped create the Cache County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.
Working with Sheriff Warren E. Hyde, Walter G. Man and Eugene Wixom of Brigham City, he helped establish the Quarter Horse Association.
He founded a boarding stable and guest ranch known as “Bar D Stables” in 1949, and offered riding lessons and trail rides to the public.
He was good at all eight rodeo events, in addition to performing as a trick rider, trick roper, rodeo clown and judge. The Atlas Kid was laid to rest after being struck by lightning June 14, 1953.
